The days of getting your passport or visa picture taken in a photo booth in a dingy subway station are long gone. But the nostalgia of photo booth pictures are here to stay. If you can find them that is.
While many booths have faded into obscurity or are passed by without an afterthought, those who value the unique colours and instant gratification of an instant  image know where to go to get a classic photo booth picture. Scattered through NYC and its outer boroughs are a plethora of booths just waiting to be used, they offer a unique keepsake of a visit to a town that holds on to the memories of eras long gone.
Here are a few of our faves:
2 6th Ave
Situated in the hotel lobby of one of our favourite NYC haunts. Come for the pics, stay for the laid back vibe.
67 Spring St
So when we are partial to an Avocado shake break we stop at Joe and the Juice in the East Village. Ok, maybe it’s the shake or maybe it’s the photo booth at the back of their store.
55 3rd Ave Bet 10th & 11th
The kind of restaurant that you think you’ve seen in a movie and you likely have. Take a picture in their photo booth on your way out (there is a booth in each of their locations), because pics or it didn’t happen or something like that.
109 3rd Ave
East village enclave of beauty products. Test some products, buy some creams then show off your glowy self in the photo booth.
666 5th Ave
In the hub of 5th avenue is the Uniqlo flagship. Sure you can buy their latest SPRZ collaboration before it hits your country or you could take a pic or four first. The big plus is their booth is free!
16 West 29th St Between Broadway & 5th Ave
A staple of midtown, the Ace hotel is the epitome of all things cool. Rooms that look like an indie bands living room. Stumptown coffee and the renown Breslin restaurant. Take a pic in the ground floor photo booth and sip on a Stumptown coffee in the always crowded great to people watch lobby.
29 East 3rd St between Bowery & 2nd Ave
Pickleback shots and photo booth pics. We love this spot as it is a classic example of a New York bar with a local feel.
538 East 14th Street between Avenue A & B
Watch movies and munch popcorn in the back room, sip a bevvie at the bar, take a photo booth pic with a local and have a story to tell your friends when you get home. We love Otto’s because it reminds us of the original gritty NYC we grew up with and love.
