We are less than two months out from the official start of summer and like the average New Yorker, our schedule is starting to fill with extra-curricula activities! The myth that New Yorkers are rude and standoffish is nothing but a myth. True locals are always open and willing to help – I have had people take off an item of clothing in public to show my the label when I have told them that their style is fresh and ‘where can I get it from??’
In the spirit of sharing we are providing a list of resources that WE use to plan our all season fun in the city. These sites are updated regularly so check back for fresh links when planning your visit to NYC. Then of course, book a Dapper Tour to drop you off at your activity of choice.
Bowling
The one and only Brooklyn Bowl ain’t your dad’s bowling alley. Less polyester shirt more vintage polyester..more than a bowling alley their DJ music sets are incredible with the occasional appearance from Questlove.
Movies
While we provided a round up of some of our favourite film festivals here there is much to be said about watching a classic movie in the company of oh…. 2,000 other people. The movies in the park options in NYC are ENDLESS. While we have a few outdoor movies locations that are special to our heart (and extra conveniently located) the NY Parks department provides an exhaustive list of movies in every borough that can be watched free of charge. We highly suggest bringing a blanket to sit on and your favourite snacks!
Concerts
While concerts from some of the best known bands in the world are aplenty in NYC, the smaller, indie labels can be easily overlooked. Enter Oh my Rockness the go to resource of the performances of bands so indie even the hippstery of hipsters doesn’t know they exist. The good thing is that its possible you will find a band from your local hometown listed and can show some support when you are Stateside.
Eats
You know that cool friend who always seems to know about new restaurant openings and the best hole-in-the-wall spot that hasn’t got spoiled yet? If that friend was a website they would be The Infatuation. They do not disappoint nor fail. Get yer eat on.
Theater
Our favourite local spot for theatrical events from avant garde to niche to classic is BAM. The Brooklyn Academy of Music is home to more than musical events. See only-available-here performances and works of art that will touch your soul.
Invite Only Events
More than a uk based magazine, The Gentlewoman hosts a variety of creative fueled events influenced by the unique corners of the music, fashion and performance industries. Sign up to their newsletter to be kept in the loop.
Art
Frieze New York feels like an art fair from the future. Always one to push the envelope in their choice of artists and variety of media, in 2019 they will be showing on Randall’s Island (no boat necessary to attend) that promises to be well worth the journey. Tickets MUST be bought in advance for the 2019 fair.
