You wouldn’t be remiss in thinking that New York is home to some of the most renown architecture in America. Landmarks such as the art deco Chrysler Building and Empire State are synonymous with the city that houses them. But aside from unique and treasured art pieces in building form, high end skincare company Aesop is quietly reinventing the concept of retail brick n mortar via thoughtful interior design collaboration.
Each of Aesop’s 15 stores scattered through the neighbourhoods of New York are unique. From the avant-garde, one store is formatted inside an old dry cleaners, to the environmentally pleasing interior made from strips of the New York Times. A visit to Aesop lands you at the throne of conceptually fresh and visually invigorating art.
A Dapper fave is the Bleecker Street location in the illustrious West Village. Collab’d with Melbourne based design group March Studio. This store exudes inspiration from the bohemian heritage of its surrounding neighborhoods. Wood paneling meets brass details and a leather, (yes, leather), floor presented in a pseudo psychedelic way. It defies what you thought you knew a retail store should be and is worth a stop on your Dapper bike tour.
A stop at the Aesop on Bleecker will fill your appreciation for architecture and design. Entice you with the the emollient and pleasing products, and have you leave with a renewed appreciation for the many-a-tactile-ways to experience art in this wonderful town.
